Anna Ancher (1859–1935)
Anna Ancher was the only native of the Skagen colony. In her scenes of everyday life, she transcended naturalism, and was therefore also considered an Impressionist. She participated alongside Bertha Wegmann and others in the ground-breaking Copenhagen Women’s Exhibition of 1895. Ahead of her time, she succeeded in developing an abstract formal language.
