Christian Krohg (1852–1925)
The Norwegian painter Christian Krohg came to Skagen in 1879. Originally a lawyer, he became politicised in the bohemian circle around Georg Brandes in Berlin. He painted the Gaihede fishing family in intimate everyday settings. His work is distinguished by a class-conscious depiction of ordinary people rather than revelling artists.
