P.S. Krøyer (1851–1909)
P.S. Krøyer first came to Skagen in the summer of 1882, influencing the plein air painting there like no one else. The midsummer bonfire on St. John’s Day appears in several of his paintings. It depicts the local population and the Danish art scene celebrating the longest day of the year and the summer solstice. Krøyer’s numerous study trips also took him to Capri.
