Friedrich Thöming (1802–1873)
Friedrich Thöming studied at the Copenhagen Academy of Fine Arts in 1823 and first visited Capri in 1828, where he stayed at Hotel Pagano. In 1829, he returned there with August Kopisch, who, along with Ernst Fies, is considered to have rediscovered the Blue Grotto. Thöming was one of the first to sell small-scale imagery of the grotto to wealthy travellers to Italy.
