Katharina Grosse

In the process of making this painting Grosse layered stencils on the canvas at different times, creating well-defined borders within which colorful, heterogenous forms populate the image. The forms appear to be still undergoing mutations, especially those at the edges of the canvas. Although they intersect and overlap with the other shapes, overlaid on the white background like a collage, their rectilinear aspect nevertheless also invokes a framing device.
