Vibrant oranges and yellows curve in horizontal loops across the canvas, dominating the work’s composition. Contoured and saturated in the center, the colors develop into diffuse swathes to the right and left. The clouds of spray settling especially at the edges, create a rippling structure that makes the canvas beneath appear to undulate. This simultaneous emergence of various painterly events is a feature of Katharina Grosse's painting that can likewise be discovered in many other works. As the artist once wrote, painting is always present in itself, the question is only on which substrate it settles.
